I have accumulated over 20 years of experience in policy making, IT Systems, and Operations management, supporting Fortune 500 businesses in Publishing, Transportation, Telecommunications, and Finance.
I have worked to develop strategic technology solutions and system improvements, enabling business success.
I currently advise local businesses on network systems, internet hosting, server management, and the associated security issues.
I have never served as an "advisor," so there's a certain level of personal curiosity. In a sense, the irony to me is that I have been advising on some level for quite some time. I am usually the person who is tasked with exploring a business-affecting issue and developing solutions to eliminate that issue. Afterward, I suggest my preferred option.
Alternatively, I would discover an issue and take the proper steps to ensure positive outcomes. I relish the opportunity to explore the advisor experience mainly because it seems like a chance to put to use the knowledge and experiences I have gained over decades of working within telecommunications and, more recently, cybersecurity.
I have been involved in numerous situations that were business continuity and/or operations-related within the realm of Information Technology. This work was done while in the armed forces, supporting government agencies and businesses operating within a variety of industries.
Previous experience includes providing training to reduce the effects of systems outages or data loss, in addition to refining and developing processes and systems to improve operations and reduce mitigating factors affecting successful outcomes.
I believe I am most valuable when I can advise on the nature of the situation at hand and provide information allowing for informed decision making.
I see a rushed push to adopt AI technology without allowing the technology to "mature" or the primary users to "grow into the technology".
I sense that while AI can be a great tool to employ, those developing it do not always seem to understand that which they are trying to develop as fully as they think they do.
This rush to adopt is disruptive, as is the rapid adaptation of any new technology. Mistakes will be made. The negative ramifications can be – at the very least – embarrassing, and at worst, catastrophic. Take for example the number of security issues that have become evident with the implementation of IoT devices, especially in the home.
It would seem wisest to take a very thoughtful approach towards adapting AI. Just because something can be done, does not necessarily mean we must always do so.
A licensee of a major American publisher located in Latin America repeatedly missed publication deadlines due to telecommunications issues related to the use of satellite transmission services.
Via a series of meetings in Mexico City with the CEO, we were able to identify a number of issues involving the local telecom network infrastructure and networking hardware configurations.
Analysis helped to encourage the business to migrate onto a fiber optics-based network that supported international connections to the American publisher's network, resulting in eliminating incidents of missed publication deadlines due to networking issues.
