What are your areas of expertise?

I have spent 40+ years providing advice and guidance to Trustees, actuaries, accountants, attorneys, administrators, asset managers, and other professionals for institutions such as public, corporate, union, multi-employer and Taft-Hartley pension funds. I also worked with endowments, foundations, and health & welfare funds.

What's your main motivation for being an advisor?

In the investment consulting industry, I have been a pioneer, innovator, educator, manager, and speaker. I believe that there are a few investment professionals that have the history and authenticity to speak truth to power and persuade others to do the same.

What types of situations are you capable of advising on?

I am a skeptic, even with my own ideas. I welcome honest debate and clear reasoning. I have insight and will share. There are always challenging decisions to be made as a manager or advisory board in any organization. In my career, I have made a wide range of individual and collaborative decisions that required innovation and improvisation.

Do you see any disruptive trends on the horizon in your industry or position?

In the investment consulting / asset management industries, there is far too much timidity and sameness. Investment professionals think that they know far more than they actually do, and more often than not, they lead their clients astray. They allow their clients to buy high and sell low as a standard form of business.

Tell me about the most impactful project or decision you’ve been involved in as an executive.

From 1986 to 1991 while working with Prudential Asset Management and The Marco Consulting Group, I developed my own Sustainable Asset Allocation Model, Complementary Investment Strategy Selection & Retention, SDIC Investment Performance Reporting and Analysis, Relevant Investment Performance Measures.

For the next 25 years, I applied these concepts to all of my clients as well as the clients of my consultant colleagues. My asset allocation model allowed my clients to achieve their long-term goals while rebuffing the scrutiny of the actuaries and Auditor General of the State of Illinois.

I also shared this information with the industry by taking educational and speaking engagements at private offices, forums, and conferences.
